I enjoyed the story immensely. It was very creative. A shy medium who has not come out as gay is tormented by the spirit of a school shooter. What I liked is how similar Sawyer and Jake are. They have come down similar roads and how much more would Jake have to endure before he became like Sawyer. I didn't that Sawyer would become Jake. When he does he is intent continuing his murderous streak, very much like Johnny Bartlett in The Frighteners. His dark spirit fully engulfs any humanity Sawyer may have had and is transformed into something even darker, more cruel.
Jake in turn is not happy to be a medium. He has endured trauma when he was younger and it shaped who he became. Much like Sawyer. The only difference I could see that Jake's mother truly loved her children. She wasn't perfect, she made mistakes athat caused her sons to endure abuse and she shows remorse. Sawyer's mom only cared about appearances, not accepting the reality that her son was troubled and could have done with some support. Sawyer could have turned his life around if she had made a conscious effort to be there.
Jake finally comes out of his shell after defeating a terrible darkness that took over his body and used it to kill a man. It does not matter what we think, taking a life changes you. I feel after defeating Sawyer, he can find the inner strength to move on. It helps that he opens up and accepts who he is. He gets to find peace and acceptance with his family and friend. He can grow. I enjoy reading how changed he feels after he recovers and begins a relationship with Alister. All is right in Jake's world...for now.
