I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK. The Taking of Jake Livingston is about a boy (Jake Livingston obviously), who is a medium. Everyday he sees dead people experiencing their last moments alive. Suddenly, he begins to be haunted by a boy named Sawyer, who committed a school shooting and then committed suicide. It seems as though Sawyer is out to kill Jake, and he is unsure of how to save himself. In the midst of all this chaos, he takes a liking to a new boy at his school named Allister.

In the beginning of the book, I honestly was not expecting that much. I was going through the pages really quickly, and I honestly felt like the pacing was a little bit too fast. I was thinking that if the book continued on that way, I wouldn't be able to finish it. Needless to say, I am so happy that I finished reading it. The action was amazing and shocking, the romance had me in LITERAL TEARS, and the character's backgrounds had me speechless.

Queerness and young teens navigating their sexuality was a huge topic in this book. I like how Ryan Douglass was real about the experience of LGBTQ+ children in families that are not very accepting.

There were points in the book that were graphic and upsetting where I had to close the book and take breaks. The book is marketed toward ages 12+, but I think it would be more suitable for readers 13 or 14+. Please be aware that there are triggering and sensitive topics discussed and described in the book.
