Wanted to like it more
I did like this book overall. It had perfectly spooky vibes, and I especially loved the ending scene with the peril and the brothers. It was just what I was hoping for in an ending. However, the rest of the book was lacking for some reason. I can't quite put my finger on it.
It is interesting how the killer ghost gets POVs. If I was supposed to sympathize with him for them, however, I really didn't. It just creeped me out more, which may have been the point. For me, though, I just got mad whenever I saw his POV pop up. There was way too much of it, and I really didn't care about him as a character. Wish we'd spent more time with Jake, or even had some more POVs with his friends. Then I would've been more invested in their stories.
This is good YA horror, but not great. Unfortunately, there's not much in this genre in the first place, so I'll take what I can get.
