The premise of the book was interesting, as was the main character. The sample I read was engaging and had my attention. Unfortunately, once I read further, the pacing slowed down. I wanted to like it as much as I had before, but there was something about it that wouldn't hold my attention.

All I can return to is the pacing, that it stagnated after the initial sample. I'm not the best one to comment on other aspects, as I am white, but I think there are quite a few things readers of color, would be able to relate too. Again, those were interesting and if the pacing had engaged me more, would have added more to the book.

This was a book I really wanted to like, but ultimately fell flat. I felt more in the school shooter's head due to his point of view chapters than I did with the main character. A little more depth or digging a little deeper may have held my attention more.
