I cant give this a high star review. Too much is left unexplained and sort of messy. There are no whys. Why Jake can see ghosts. Why Sawyer chose him specifically. Why is there no past or future for Jake? It only talks about the present and that is it. I would think that I would have read more about Jake but instead I got an entire history of the shooter. Why not Jake too? It leaves a lot more questions than answers.

There were new powers Jake came to but no explanation how or why. Seemed so strange that all of a sudden out of convenience he can see auras. It made me as the reader feel lost and trying to keep up with the story when I shouldn't have to.

The racism, being queer and homophobia is well explained but meh ok it could have been better. The mental health aspect was subpar. I am not sure if the author has any clue about mental health for characters this age. It did not make sense and the odd lack of self care was weird. Not a book I recommend. Struggled to finish.
