Overall this is a really fun paranormal/mystery novel with great pacing. The first chapter and we're already watching the story unfold through the eyes of our main character Jake. One of the only black boys at an all white high school and as a poc I know exactly what it feels like to occupy those spaces. Yet Jake is also a medium and we immediately explore what that's like for him and how its not as cool as we perceived it to be.
We also get to explore our other main character, Sawyer who recently tried to commit suicide but is now back from a recovery he didn't get to finish. With his mother too embarrassed and old fashion to accept her sons obvious mental health issues he's left all alone to battle through it. These two characters are yet to interact and yet I cannot wait to see how their two storylines will intertwine.
I can only hope the heavy topics included in the story are handled properly and with care. I can't wait to see this story play out and explore this world!
