I really liked this supernatural wild ride. I loved that it gave voice to tough issues. I really enjoyed that the main character Jake was a black, queer, protagonist of a horror story! Jake Livingston is a medium, but dealing with ghosts and ghouls isn’t as grand as it sounds. To add to his stresses he goes to a private mostly white prep school where he is overshadowed by his greatly more popular older brother. Jake has found himself to be the focus of a very angry and powerful ghost who brought a gun to school shooting people before himself. The story alternates between their perspectives and this story about ghosts and possession turns attention to much bigger and serious issues like: racism, bullying, homophobia, depression, sexual abuse, and neglect. This book is short but gripping and very well written. I look forward to seeing what this author writes in the future!!
