Jake is the main character that we needed! He's black, he's gay, and talks to dead people. The paranormal element of being able to see and talk to ghosts mixed with the unfortunate reality of racism within the public school system and the dangers of mass shootings mix together well to form a story that is not too far from reality. While this book has paranormal aspects, the storyline and Jake's character allow the reader to experience his world as it seems real. I really enjoyed this first look.
