Whew! This book became creepy rather fast! The author does a good job of layering different levels of story and beginning the linking of them. We first learn of Jake's problems as the only black kid in school and the problems that go with that. But we also quickly learn he has another problem--he sees into the death that has taken place around him. Then we hear from Sawyer, who we already know will become a mass school shooter. I can see that this book could have some deep levels of pain and horror to it.
