"I hate it here"
"The Taking of Jake Livingston" catches your eye with its phenomenal cover and then wastes no time in showing you it will hold no punches in all the themes it introduces: blackness in predominantly white communities, gun violence, depression and identity. I was very impressed by the boldness of this first read.
I want to know more about Jake, Benji, Fiona and Sawyer (whose point-of-view is very tricky), and I'm really curious to see how the paranormal resonates back to this book's themes.
