The Taking of Jake Livingston has a great premise, and these first few chapters set up some compelling issues for Jake to navigate (the day-to-day trauma of high school, plus racist micro aggressions, plus murderous ghosts, etc.). I sometimes struggled to picture the way the supernatural elements interacted with the real world, but hopefully that differentiation would get clearer over time.
