The Taking of Jake Livingston is about a black teen attending a prep school in Atlanta who sees the souls of the departed in loops playing the moments before their death. One day after school, he learns of a death in his neighborhood. The boy had survived a school shooting the year before and it seems Jake is about to become well-acquainted with the ghost of the former school shooter.
The jacket cover was good and sets an ominous tone for the story. Unfortunately, because it was difficult to tell what was real and what wasn't, the reader is left as confused as Jake can be.
