This book purposes to be a "self help" book but really it should be a "wait around with a positive attutude, because the only one who can help you is god" ** if you are an upperclass white christian . As I was reading the many, many pages of introduction I became annoyed that the authors both claimed that they had struggled before and then found god and that was why they were so positive, however as I kept reading it seemed more like the authors just had really great lives with the most minor of setbacks (getting broken up with, loosing a PART TIME job only to be able to move AFTER GRADUATION and get a bigger job).

To me this is just a lesson less on the will of god and more speaking to white privilege in America. When one of the authors looses her job she takes it as a sign that god is pushing her to "greater things" and she moves to LA and gets a job at the biggest show in the country. Most people who lose there jobs don't have the privalage to go "oh ok then, i'll just move to LA". This is especially frustrating as it leads to a mentality in people in positions of privilege that their successes are a result of their own hard work and favor of god, and that if you are not successful it is because GOD is at work.

Additionally the tips on how to improve your mental health and well being are just... do nothing and remind yourself this is all gods plan? I just don't see how that is helpful to anyone suffering either from an actual crisis or mental health challenges.
