I won an ARC of this book a few months ago and haven't had time to read it yet, but after reading this excerpt, I cannot wait to finish it! So many interesting things were introduced in this excerpt. Obviously the Sunbearer Trials sound intriguing, but the dynamics between the Golds and the Jades is also compelling. Additionally, I enjoyed the fact that this is an own voices book. The addition of Teo also having wings that don't accurately reflect his identity is a complex and interesting detail that reflects the reality for trans men, that top surgery does not automatically fix body dysmorphia. I'm really looking forward to see how this develops throughout the rest of the novel!
