I liked the mythological background of the first couple pages. Other than that, I'm not a YA reader and not familiar with the author, and this sounds a lot like all the other YA fantasy books out there. Just isn't something I'd pick up. Not sure what Teo being trans has to do with anything except that's the popular trope anymore, practically a requirement to have a gay or trans character.
