As soon as I saw Chupacabra mentioned toward the beginning, I was interested to read more. It seems like there’s a lot going on in this book -- inspirations of mythology and folklore mixed with modern life. I love that there’s gods and goddesses and school and social media… it’s an interesting fantasy world with a Mexican-inspired setting.

Imagine being able to communicate with birds! I guess that should be easy to do if you’re like Teo and have wings because your mother is the goddess of birds. It’s great that this book includes trans representation. Near the end of chapter 2, we learn about Teo’s first experiences with dysphoria.

The cover is interesting and seems to represent the story well. The inside design of the book is great with the birds printed on the chapter header pages.
