World renowned profiler Lane Phillips and forensic reconstructionist Rory Moore are back, and find themselves involved in what is supposed to be a closed case. The Westmont Prep slaughter made national news, and the fallout was two dead students, and the assumed killer, Charles Gorman their chemistry teacher, who sits in a vegetative state in a psychiatric hospital after his suicide attempt. Something about this case never felt right to Detective Ott, he suspects that the students who survived that horrific night are hiding something. Could it be guilt that is driving them back to the abandoned boarding house to throw themselves in front of the train, or is there something more sinister at play?

Charlie Donlea has created another masterful thriller with very relatable and well developed characters. The building sense of urgency, along with three running timelines (one of them ambiguous) kept me guessing until the final chapters.
