The Sin in the Steel is a great combination of some wonderful and classic story elements. I love the mystery aspect, especially when set against a thrilling fantasy backdrop. And pirates! This really had so much going for it.

The characters, too, lended to the good time had by all. Buc and Eld were snarky and bloodthirsty, and overall had a pretty solid dynamic. There were a few times it was hard to connect with Buc as a wicked-smart, but arrogant and rash main character, but overall her POV was fun to read. Also, not that it's super important, Buc's and Eld's ages as 17 and 19 didn't really feel right to me. They tended to seem a lot older.

The plot was quite intriguing. Buc and Eld, two Sherlock-and-Watson teens, are thrown the mystery of their life, one that could change everything for them. On their journey they face twists and turns, dead gods, pirate kings, and more.

Solid debut, overall.
