I only managed to read 40% of this book before I put it aside. I generally like fantasy books and was excited about the premise of this one. Unfortunately, I was never able to fully get into the story. It needed more world building at the start. I had difficulty following the different players, what side they were on, and what was the underlying problem. Although Buc and Eld were more fleshed out than the rest of the novel, at 40% into the novel, I wanted to know more about them especially how they came to know each other. This book would have benefitted from better editing regarding both the development of the storyline and the prose. The premise of the book is good, but the execution did not meet expectations.
