I loved the spin on a Sherlock/Watson duo. The world building is a lot. For someone that normally does not read fantasy, it felt like there was a lot to keep up with. I felt that if I missed a sentence I was missing a key detail. The dialogue was easy and never felt forced between any of the characters and the transitions as they moved throughout different areas was lovely. Every now and again a key detail was explain a few short chapters after, which I appreciated, but for the chapters in between I felt lost. As individual characters both Buc and Eld are great. I personally did not care for the underlying romantic relationship or the several pages explaining a memory either character was having.
