Just from the synopsis and the cover, I could tell there's way too much going on. I totally get that it's a fantasy and I like the idea of putting a twist on the modern-day detective story, however, this is way too much. You have gods, pirates, mages, and a "Sherlockian" teenager - none of these even existed together, not in anything I've ever read anyway. Totally different time periods, unfortunately I just couldn't get into it.
