This book starts off with a bang; the main protagonists already captured, facing the noose, a murder mystery, and a secret benefactor. The main character Buc has that inner-strength that many female characters have but it is offset by her ability to soften it in the right situations--as seen when she is schmoozing with the judge for their lives. This complexity adds for a great dimension for the character that has been hooked and wanting her to succeed in making it out of this trial alive.

The cover is great, not too revealing of the plot but telling enough to know what time period this takes place in. I like the fact that you can see a ship on a raging sea in the background. It makes me wonder if there is going to be a shipwreck sometime in the book.
