From the place names and titles, I think this story is set in a make believe Spain or Italy. I pick Spain because I like it better. We have an old fashioned murder mystery story set in the past with magic. It feels that our heroic pair don't have magic on their own, or if they do, they don't know it. I already have a copy of this book because I want to read it.
