I just could not get into this book. I had a hard time with the different military and resistance groups. Couldn't keep track of who belonged to who. Plus it is hard to read a book about Ukraine and Russia from WWII when it is happening again right now as I speak. I didn't appreciate the character of Maria either but maybe because she was so young in an adult world. Having lost your family in a war to the enemy and being put in a prisoner of war camp would have you grow up fast especially having to survive the enemy. If you like WWII historical novels then you will probably like this one. I did not. It was slow moving and to be honest I thought it was boring. There is some romance involved in the book which I found hard to believe but in cases of loneliness that could happen too.
Thank you goes out to #Bookishfirst for a copy of this book for an honest review.
