Fast paced historical thriller that felt cut short

I haven't read a historical war fiction in a while, and this was the perfect novel to plunge me back into that genre. I really liked how The Silent Unseen covered an underrepresented group in fiction, the Ukrainians and the Poles and their connection. This book was pretty short and fast paced and had characters that felt real and lovable. The writing style was descriptive but to the point and was easy to follow. I found myself zoning out a bit at the more technical descriptions of things like the UPA and what the Silent Unseen actually do, but that's just a tendency I have when things get technical (that I should probably work on!).

While I did really enjoy this book, my biggest complaint would be that it just felt too short. The book was around 300 pages, and I felt at times that we were moving from one plot point to the next so quickly. The ending also felt abrupt. I think it would've been good to make the book longer and flesh the plot out a bit more. Overall, I did really enjoy this book and would recommend it to those interested in not just WWII fiction, but in reading about unlikely connections between individuals who have something to fight for.
