I was not really looking to read yet another WWII spy novel, but the Ukrainian setting is so timely that I am interested to learn more about the Ukrainian/Polish/Soviet conflict. The writing kept my attention. The young age of the characters surprised me at first, and then I realized this was a YA book. I don't usually read YA (except I loved The Book Thief), so I'm willing to give this a try.
