Maria is journeying to her home country after being pulled to another as a slave worker; she is anxious to know what has become of her native land. Kostya is working for a resistance group (I'm not clear if there is mutual trust/respect yet).
The story had a strong start with the both characters; they seem to be at crossroads in their life journeys, especially as the war has been the dictator of the direction for recent years. I think it will be interesting to see how this story plot "plays out!"
