I appreciate the look into a side of this period of history that I know less about - the Polish-Ukrainian conflict, each with their own resistance to the Soviets, and the Soviet invasion of that land post-WWII. The first chapter is very compelling, told from 16-year-old Maria's point of view, escaping Nazi enslavement and trying to make it home after two and a half years away. I recommend for anyone interested in wartime historical fiction.
