I'll confess that while my knowledge of WWII is decent, this book introduces a part of the war & postwar era that is unfamiliar to me. I'm very interested to learn more about it, especially in light of the current war Russia is waging to take back Ukraine yet again (which makes for an interesting time to publish this book...). I probably wouldn't have picked this book up based on its description, but having read the first few chapters and seeing that the author handles some delicate and painful issues with sensitivity, I'd happily keep reading.
