I’ve read a lot of WWII novels and this one has a completely new perspective for me. Given the current happenings in the region, I welcome learning more about the history of Poland and Ukraine through the tragic stories of these young adults who are filled with such hope amidst what looks like an utterly hopeless situation. Maria, so brave and resilient under questioning and Kostya’s nervous but intelligent demeanor pulled me into their stories in a quick and compelling way. Looking forward to reading more!
