I listened to this as an audiobook, which I enjoyed. The narrators Jack Hawkins and Louise Brealey were perfect for their characters and very easy to listen to.

I liked the story, but it moved pretty slowly. I listened to the author interview at the end and he described it as a “slow suspense” as opposed to a psychological thriller and I think that’s the perfect description. I was very interested from the beginning and the stock thriller twist was great (although, yes, also stock and typical of this kind of story), but it did take me a minute to get through the whole book.

The characters were great especially. I think the two main characters (Alicia, the title character, and Theo, the secondary main character) and the focus on their professions (artist and psycho-therapist) made the book.
