I listen to audiobooks to pass the time when I'm commuting or doing household chores. As a result, I usually pick books that light and don't require too much brain power. This isn't what happened this time around. Listening to the Silent Patient as an audiobook was a complete experience. There were dark moments, some frightening turns, some heart-quickening bits - all of which meant I would disregard other aspects of my life in order to find out what happened next in the book. This leads to 4.5 stars if half-stars existed.

Going back and forth in time gave me the opportunity to better get to know the characters and the background events, while skillfully building up to the climax. Even anticipating what would happen by the end, I couldn't help but get that "oh, wow, did that really happen?" feeling that's a sign of a good read. Listening to this book was like watching a movie (and I can imagine this being made into a summer thriller).
