Wow. Just...wow. This book gets a solid four stars from me. I didn’t want to put it down! I finished it in three sittings. I usually don’t read much of the psychological thriller genre, but The Silent Patient gave me a newfound hope for thrillers, and now I can't get enough of them.

Michaelides’ writing is magnetic; it reels you in and keeps you hooked (in such a way that you won’t even notice that it’s now somehow 2AM, you’ve been reading since you put the kids to bed, and you’ve got work in a few hours). The plot twists in a way that I truly didn't see coming.

The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is that the ending felt rushed: There were several characters in the book whose connections to the main story line - their stories, I suppose - were never fully explained. What happened to them? Where did they fit in? Why even mention them at all if you’re going to leave loose ends?

Overall, I found it absolutely amazing and I recommend it regardless of whether you frequently read thrillers or not. I felt it truly lived up to the hype. The Silent Patient is an amazing debut novel and Alex Michaelides is definitely a name I’ll be looking out for in the future!
