Alicia Berenson is a famous painter married to an equally famous fashion photographer, Gabriel. By all appearances, they have a happy and loving marriage. That is, until Gabriel is brutally murdered one night, Alicia the apparent killer. Since that night, Alicia hasn't uttered a word to anyone and she now spends her days at a mental institution.

Enter Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist who has taken an interest in Alicia's case. He secures a job at the mental institution and starts therapy with Alicia in hopes of getting her to talk to him. As he digs deeper into the case, he finds that people who were close to Alicia aren't what they seem and the mystery of why Alicia shot her husband gets more and more twisted.

This book alternates back and forth between Theo's point of view and Alicia's diary entries pre-murder. It started off kind of slow and I wasn't really sure where the story was going. But then that twist - I literally gasped out loud and then raced through the last chapters. This had a Sixth Sense kind of feel and suddenly things made sense. I kind of wanted to back and reread parts to put the puzzle together. So good!!
