When I finished reading this book, I found myself saying, "That's it?" I had such high expectations for this book and it completely disappointed me. This book is about a woman who allegedly murders her husband, then never speaks again. A new therapist is tasked with trying to get her to explain her motivation to kill. The book is told through the therapist's perspective and focuses too much on his personal life. There is so much unnecessary details about his character. There are pages on end just describing him smoking. The book should've focused more on Alicia's journal. The journal was too tense and formal to be believable, though. The plot twist was predictable. This book is littered with thinly veiled misogyny. It is also extremely unrealistic. Everything about the mental health system, in patient care, and therapy was so inaccurate. There were also very inaccurate and harmful representations of mental health. The book is slow paced but the chapters are short and I liked the writing style. Even though I hated this book, I would read other books by this author if it is fast paced. The book ends with so many unresolved issues and there are many plot holes in it.
