The Silent Patient is a surprisingly great debut novel. The author is a fantastic writer. I was drawn in to the storyline by the end of the first chapter, and the characters held my attention well through until the end. Alicia's silence was incredibly intriguing; I didn't assume it meant she was guilty, but I did suspect that she played more of a role in her husband's murder than the reader is made to believe/not believe.
While I did enjoy this book overall, I was let down by the "plot twist" at the end. I read right past it then realized what I'd done, and had to go back and reread the sentence again. For a book that spends the first 90% of the story building up to this moment, I expected more. Also, I felt like the author tried to drop three bombs in at the end but it felt unnatural (hint...the psychotherapist, the brother, and the actual murderer.)

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Bookish for allowing me to read this advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
