I read this because it won the 2019 Goodreads choice awards and I love a good thriller. I thought it was pretty good and I also liked the parallels with the Greek tragedy of Alcestis. Michaelides has such a great writing style and I enjoyed how all the twists and turns played out. The dual perspectives with Theo's thoughts and Alicia's diary were interesting because the reader is not quite sure who to trust. I ended up knocking this book down one star because I thought the last twist fell a bit flat for me and was a little confusing at first. All in all, it was a pretty good thriller and I can see why it won that category. I had only read two of the other nominees before the voting ended and I didn't get around to The Silent Patient until 2020, but if I had read it last year, I would have probably changed my vote in favor of this one.
