Special thank you to Celadon Books for gifting me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"Alicia is a silent siren, my boy, luring us to the rocks, where we dash our therapeutic ambition to pieces."

“We often mistake love for fireworks -- for drama and dysfunction. But real love is very quiet, very still. It’s boring, if seen from the perspective of high drama. Love is deep and calm -- and constant.”

One of the most talked about books of the year so far, The Silent Patient was every bit as good as the hype builds it up to be, even if I scratched my head in confusion most of the way through it.

This thriller is set in London and is told from the POV of Theo Faber, a 42-year-old forensic psychotherapist who has recently accepted a position at Grove -- forensic hospital, and home to Alicia Berenson, accused killer.

Alicia Berenson, famous painter formerly married to notable photographer Gabriel Berenson before his untimely death, has spent the last many years at Grove in a private hospital room, where she refuses to speak. It isn’t just that Alicia refuses to open up about the truth of Gabriel’s death -- she refuses to so much as make a sound. While Alicia has refused to utter a word since Gabriel’s brutal slaying, she did, however, pour her feelings into her masterpiece, Alcestis, which raises more questions than answers.

While psychological thrillers are always my go-to books, I can sometimes foresee the ending long before the final chapters. This book, however, kept me on my toes and guessing until the very end. The mark of a fantastic book, for sure!
