I received an advance reader's copy of The Silent Patient from BookishFirst and Celadon Books, and I am so glad I did. I've been desperate to read this book since I first heard about it, months ago, and desperation isn't cute on anyone. I could barely bring myself to put this book down. I stayed up far too late reading it the night I started it, contemplated "losing track of time" on my lunch break the next day, and ultimately took a 15-minute not-smoke break to finish reading it mid-afternoon in my boss's office. I'm sure there are people who have and will figure out the twist, but I did not, and I had so much fun getting to the big reveal. It's a masterful psychological offering, with shock and devastation aplenty. This is one of the best books I've read in the past few months, and I will be keeping my eye out for anything else by Alex Michaelides.

The characters he's created here are perfectly flawed and broken people, and they just break your heart, even while you question everything. No one is telling the truth, but instead goes to great lengths to keep secrets secret. It keeps you on edge while you're trying to figure out what to think, and even at the end, you can't truly relax. I would absolutely recommend this to fans of thrillers and anyone wanting to dip a toe into those dark and twisty waters
