Alex Michaelides takes you in a wild ride in this psychological thriller. I am from the psychological profession, so this book interested me when I heard about it.
While I read, I habitually tried to diagnose Alicia, a woman from a well to do and artistic background, who stops speaking and is a patient in a psychiatric hospital. Theo is a psychotherapist who quits his job to take a job at a hospital where Alicia is housed in order to get the chance to work with her. Theo fully believe he has the capability to make Alicia speak again. As sessions where Theo meets with Alicia progress, Alicia starts to make some strides in her therapy. Michaelides throws us a curve ball at the end that is quite brilliant.
I have generally reserve 5 star ratings for non-fiction books, however, Michaelides cleverness and the way he interweaves the characters has me on the edge of my seat.
