I love thrillers, and am pretty familiar with the formula that many of them seem to follow. With that being said, I initially wasn’t sure how I felt about this story. However, what really solidified it as a great thriller was the twist ending, after that I was hooked and have been recommending to friends and family!

It is hard to write a review for a thriller without giving spoilers!

The book centers around a woman named Alicia, the type of woman who seems to have it all- a loving husband, a blossoming art career, a life that others turn to with envy. She herself is not truly likable, but you have a developed understanding of her as a character as the story continues on. As you may guess, everything changes on the day when a terrible twist of fate happens; Alicia's husband is murdered in an extreme and violent manner, and she is arrested for the crime. Throughout the entire trial, Alicia never speaks, neither to declare her innocence nor to proclaim her guilt. Her silence is enough to draw the attention of the media who boost her into notoriety as the "Silent Patient". Now in a secure psychiatric unit, criminal psychotherapist, Theo, has one mission- to make the silent patient speak again.

This story is fast paced and introduces you to a variety of complex family dynamics making this both a domestic thriller while maintaining a mystery element. The story itself is a very easy read and very accessible to those who are new to the thriller genre. The twist is very fun and original! I’d recommend this to anyone interested in thrillers!
