Wow! This was the best introduction to a book that I have read in a long while! The teaser is that Alicia Berenson was deeply in love with her husband Gabriel, that is, until the night she killed him. Now she is silent and remanded to a mental institution because she has been deemed mentally incapacitated. It is there that she will meet psychotherapist Theo Faber, a damaged individual himself who followed the trial of Alicia and wants to help her in some way. Although I am left hanging at the end of the first view, I can imagine what their interactions will be like. The author’s style is amazing, drawing me quickly into the story and making me want to know more about Alicia and Theo and whether or not Alicia ever speaks again. I loved the details about psychotherapy, especally since that was my daughter’s major in college. But what really fascinated me was the description of Alicia’s painting following the murder and its title, “Alcestis.” The explanation of the title made the painting so real to me. This author paints with her words and I can’t wait to read more of her colorful words that flow from her imagination to stimulate mine!
