Tommy goes out for a swim one day with every intention of never returning. Twin brother Ellis’s broken relationship with Tommy and tendency to run away from problems only complicates things more. And Harlow’s biggest concern in the gradual erosion of their small, Maine hometown. When Tommy takes a plunge into the frigid Atlantic, the trio is forced into a storm of secrets, loyalties, and complications.

-Having multiple POVs was fun to explore. Some events were seen through multiple lenses, and it was fun. I do have some things I didn’t like about the multiple POVs below, but overall, I think it was clearly laid out whose POV it was from which is often my biggest gripe.
-This book handles some big topics (see trigger warnings), and I think it handles them well. It is gentle yet purposeful.

-Although I enjoyed the three POVs in the book, I found that the narration was very similar. Dialogue was different, but the rest of the writing remained mostly the same in style even though each characters are so different. The three speakers (Ellis, his twin brother Tommy and friend Harlow) didn’t seem to have their own voice in the sections from their POV.
-I really didn’t like the majority of the characters. Harlow and Ellis were jerks, and I really only connect with Tommy and his dog.
-I’m not really sure what I read. The ending left me feeling like β€œthat’s it?”
-I often had to reread parts because I was unsure what the setting was, who was talking, or what was happening. The details seemed blurry, and even with rereads, I came out confused.
-I think that from a YA Contemporary lens, this book is not very convincing. But from a literary fiction lens, it makes more sense. This review is reviewing it as YA Contemporary since that is what I gather it is marketed as
