First off, the cover of The Sea is Salt and So Am I is absolutely gorgeous and it was the first thing that drew me in. I was also intrigued by the synopsis and the chapter sample that I read. So, I was disappointed when the book fell flat for me. The writing is beautiful but very hard to understand at times. I had to reread sections several times before I was able to pick up on what the author had subtly suggested (especially in relation to the backstories). For a character-driven novel, 2 of the main characters were extremely unlikeable and did not seem to have an arc or make any progress throughout the novel. Harlow was absolutely the worst and she was self-absorbed and manipulative and shared a very toxic relationship with Ellis. I did like Tommy's chapters the best and his narrative was what I was most interested in. The story was slow-moving and I don't even know what to say about the ending, but it definitely did not satisfy me.
