I love achingly beautiful and turbulent and tender books! The book's theme of one's town being on the precipice of falling into something often comes with a fantasy theme -- ancient magicks and yearly rites preventing such a fall. But here, the author has said, no, I'm not going to go there, I'm going to write a tale of the all-too-pulled-from-the-headlines situation of almost falling into the sea and having young folk suffering from depression.
