To begin, this is not my genre. YA romance isn't something I read a lot. That being said, the writing feels like it's trying really hard to not be YA. It spends so much time describing things that are not important in order to appear literary. It doesn't help the story. It just makes it drag and feel like filler. Still, the story touches upon a lot of current popular themes so, maybe it's ripe for YA readers and adults who read YA.
