I have never read a fantasy series before, but I am sad that I have to wait a whole year for the second book to come out. I will definitely be looking into more of Kylie Lee Baker's works. This was one of the best books I've ever read. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, not so patiently waiting to see how the book would end and who would come out on top. I love the idea of alchemy, which is what drew me in to this book. The fantasy of this book was so well explained that although I have little to no knowledge of alchemy, I was easily able to follow along with what Zilan was doing during her examinations and throughout the rest of the novel.
The details in this book are so rich that I felt like I was walking along Zilan and seeing her life through my own eyes. Every emotion was so raw and real and I was really absorbed in the story. This book was more exciting than any action movie I've ever seen and I can't wait to read the second installment. A fair warning though, this book does get very graphic at times so if you're someone who doesn't like blood, the title should be enough to discourage you.
