I Loved diving into this book! The story is fast paced and Zilan obviously loves her family she is just trying to make sure they can make ends meet so to speak. While trying to earn a spot as the Royal Alchemist she inadvertently gets mixed up in political assassination attempt.
The characters are all relatable, realistic, and likable. The story is a twist on the Tang Dynasty with mythology and magic added in but still keeping the culture and brutality of the original events.
I feel like this book would make a good tv show. The characters, the alchemy, the politics, the events of the Tang Dynasty would translate really well to TV! I would be very interested in watching it and seeing who would be cast in it!
