Within the first few chapters, I was vibing with this book. We get a female who is so stubborn and fierce and “don’t touch me” with a cinnamon roll hero that just elevates all other cinnamon rolls to a place of honor. He is not some broody prince. He’s a little cowardly, very sensitive, and also absolutely entranced by this girl who has lofty goals and ambitions.
This book also gave me a trope that I never knew I needed: concubine of convenience. As soon as that came up, I was off. Every single moment after that blew my mind. I was up and silently screaming, mouth open in shock or cheering from ecstasy. This book will give you so many emotions and then leave you speechless by the end.
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys Asian fantasy, especially historical fantasy.
