This was an amazing and wild ride. I loved Baker's writing style; it was bold, vivid, and sometimes gruesome. This was my first time reading a book set in an alternate historical timeline, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The world building was done so well that I felt I could truly envision the book as I read.
I loved the characters and the political intrigue in this book. Zilan was such an amazing main character. I loved watching how determined and sometimes ruthless she can be in the pursuit of her goals. Despite her skills and her will to succeed we get to see her self doubt and fears about her failure. We also get to see her fears in regards to her family and her place in the world. It made her character feel believable and allowed the reader to see her character growth.
This book was honestly one of my favorite reads of the year, and I am so excited to read the next book in the series. I am just said that I have to wait a year to do so.
